]]>A 1st-generation iPhone pic and still one of my all-time favorites. Most people, when they first looked at it, thought it was taken at some military base abroad. But it was actually taken in the middle of Times Square during "Fleet Week." Marines were letting anyone handle their big weapons (obviously unloaded), to the delight of many kids. This pic felt patriotic to some, while others were downright horrified (I was in the latter camp).

"The Divine Hand of Miss Colombia"

]]>Miss Colombia is a famous NYC "regular" at street fairs, parades, and basically any public place that gathers large crowds. I have many portraits of her, but this is probably my favorite. What's not to love about her? The parrot on her head, her dog Cariño (who I call "The Saddest Poodle in the World"), and her amazing dresses. What I love about Miss Colombia is that she is ALWAYS craving attention during these parades...but as soon as they're over, she suddenly switches moods and insists that no one takes her picture as she heads home. This was one of those moments: while on the steps of 5th Ave. Presbyterian Church, a tourist attempted to take her picture, and she immediately screamed "no photos" while raising her finger. Obviously...she wasn't talking to me. ;-)

"Reaching for Nirvana"

]]>When I passed this ice cream truck, the little boy was jumping excitingly into the air, and reaching his hand up towards....nothing...for what seemed like a full minute. It was such an odd sight, that I had to take my iPhone out in hopes to capture the image.

Sure enough, as soon as I was turning the phone on, a mysterious arm came out of the truck's window to provide a beautiful, rainbow-sprinkled, soft-serve ice cream cone. The funny thing is, my iPhone was still not quite ready, and I was afraid I would lose the shot. But I swear to you, that ice cream cone froze there, in mid-air, for what seemed like 6-7 seconds, while the kid was still jumping up to reach for it.

Was the ice cream truck man waiting for his mom to pay? Was he just torturing the boy even longer out of amusement? Or was fate waiting for ME to be ready, to take just the right shot?

I'll never know....

]]>One of my most popular pics ever. I was watching these two for a little bit on the subway platform, and something about the way they were acting felt "first date" to me. So when they finally moved in for a kiss, I knew I had only a second to catch them in this precious moment.
